Oak Alley Plantation

Every once in a while, you come across something so extraordinary that it's hard to encapsulate it in words. Erin is writing a book and as part of her research we decided to travel to Oak Alley Plantation and stay on the grounds for 3 days in a small cottage B&B behind the historic mansion. Needless to say, we were enthralled with the grounds of Oak Alley. Nestled in Vacherie, Louisiana between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, this Greek-revival style antebellum home is introduced by an enchanting quarter-mile canopy of majestic oak trees which were planted before the birth of our Nation. Oak Alley is a place stuck in a time of years gone by that beckons to those traveling down the great Mississippi river. Because we were staying on the grounds of the plantation, I was able to photograph this historic treasure long after the crowd of tourists left. You really need a lot of courage to stand in the pitch black all alone with just you and the trees. Fortunately, I took two night shots and quickly retreated to my cottage! We were able to tour the inside of the home (now a museum) to see what life might have been like in the mid-1800's. This is a must see for all those visiting Louisiana!
